Ryder Cup Accommodation 2010 – Newport Gets Ready!
The Ryder Cup comes to Newport, Gwent for three days from 1st – 3rd October 2010. What does this mean for Wales’ newest city?
The Ryder Cup is regarded as being one of the most important events in the golfing calendar; the challenge between the finest British and American professionals is to take place at the Celtic Manor Resort for the first time on the new Twenty Ten course. This is the first time a course has been built especially to host this event.
There will also be three Practise Days, on 28th,29th and 30th September 2010 and all tickets are being allocated by ballot. For further details on this, check out the Ryder Cup official website, but be careful because there have been reports of touting. According to the website, all tickets will carry photo ID in an attempt to prevent fraud.
Newport has been awarded £1million funding from the Welsh Assembly to help pay for major investment in the city. In all nearly £4 million will be spent on road works, buildings and restoration of major iconic structures as the Transporter Bridge. A new railway station has been added to replace the old one.
There will also be a Newport Festival which begins in March 2010, with lots of events taking place throughout the spring and summer months. The aim is to raise Newport’s profile and encourage the residents to feel proud of their new city.
In a world first, Newport’s education service is creating a Ryder Cup-themed curriculum for children in the city. This will be shared with schools across Wales and beyond, including Medinah County in the US, the next host of the Ryder Cup. It is hoped that the next generation of golf professionals will come from the training provided by the Cup funding!
Newport is also an interesting gateway to South Wales, and provides easy access to Cardiff, the M4 Corridor, the South Wales Valleys, Abergavenny, and Brecon and the Brecon Beacons. A city which is looking forward to the Ryder Cup, and one which deserves to be better known! http://www.Buybritishnow.com
